Welcome to the Arnold Air Society website for the General Curtis E.
LeMay Squadron at The Ohio State University!
Saltcon 2007

This year our National Conclave
was held in beautiful Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by the Rock Mountains and
home to the 2002 Olympic Games. The conclave is a yearly business meeting for
all Arnold Air Society squadrons from around the country to make decisions like
presenting awards, choosing new national staff, a joint (AAS/SW) national
service project and the meeting place for next year's NATCON. Daily schedules
consist of business meetings, command staff position discussion groups,
briefings from Air Force officers, great food, fun and time to explore the sites
and sounds of Salt Lake City. Guest speakers this year included Gen Schwartz,
MGen Pryzbyslawski, BGen (select) Poss, BGen Flowers, BGen Bundy, Col Kunzweiler
and others.
Highlights this year include
"The best party of the year", a private performance by the Air Force Honor Guard
Drill Team and the final military banquet. Formerly known as "Probably the best
party of the year", generals, cadre and cadets gathered for a night of fun and
entertainment. The evenings events included a casual tailgate style dinner,
inflatable obstacle course, casino, drinks and a live band.
Ranking right up there with the
best party of the year was the AF Honor Guard who, under the command of Lt
Hawkins (BGen Hawkins son), gave a spectacular performance in the streets of
down town Salt Lake City right outside of the Salt Palace Convention Center. The
full performance captured the audience's attention and sparked an almost
continuous applause. Afterwards, everyone had ample time to meet the Drill Team
members, take pictures and ask questions.
The whole event concludes with
a formal military banquet served at the Salt Palace. Here final awards are given
out, a change of command ceremony for both SW and AAS takes place and the guest
speaker General Norton A Schwartz, Commander, United States Transportation
Command gave his remarks. Afterwards cadets and cadre have a last chance to
meet and greet the other cadets, officers and many generals who took time to
attend this awesome event.
Candidate Class Nears its End
The spring '07 candidate class is in the final
days of training! Obviously this is a huge relief for candidates Plasencio and
Engle. Throughout this quarter these candidates have worked hard to learn all
there is to know about the Arnold Air Society here at Ohio State. From training
day one C/Chittur and C/Johnston have worked with these candidates to help teach
them. Many member of the AAS also volunteered to devote countless hours to
helping our candidates reach their goal of becoming full fledged members of the
Arnold Air Society. The most recent accomplishments of this quarter's candidate
class were passing their physical fitness test and then passing their Arnold Air
Society national test. Hopefully after review boards this evening the Curtis E.
LeMay squadron will be one step closer to having two new members. All that will
be left for these brave cadets is OpHap, so if you see them around the Det
please wish them luck.
